Filip Michalak is a young danish/polish pianist born in Aalborg, Denmark, and started playing the piano at the age of 8 with Irina Amelina as his teacher. He won 2nd price at the Steinway Piano Festival in Denmark (2006), followed by 3rd prize (2008) and 4th prize in 2012. He is also a first prize winner in “Nordjyllands Talentkonkurrence” in 2013, 1st prize at “Stars at Tenerife” in Spain and he was selected to the “13th Unisa International Piano Competition” in Pretoria (South Africa) in January 2016. Lately he has been selected to the James Mottram International Piano Competition taking place 28th November – 3rd December 2016.
Filip has performed as a soloist in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Poland. In 2016 he performed an arrangement of M. Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” for piano and orchestra with Ingesund String Orchestra. In 2013 he played “Rhapsody in Blue” by G. Gershwin at the opening ceremony of the new concert house “Musikkens Hus” in Aalborg and in May 2016 he performed C. Franck A-major sonata together with his chamber music partner, Joachim Becerra Thomsen (flute) at the Tivoli Concert Hall in Copenhagen.
During his career, he has attended several masterclasses with well-known pianist and professors as Boris Berman, Sergejs Osokins, Ferenc Rados, Mikhail Voskresensky, Olli Mustonen and Alexander Ghindin. In 2013 he started at The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen in prof. Niklas Sivelövs class. In 2015 he received many scholarships to study abroad. He is currently a student of prof. Julia Mustonen-Dahlkvist at Ingesund Musikhögskolan in Sweden and is simultaneously doing his master-degree at Royal College of Music in Stockholm
