Twenty-four year old pianist Vanessa Benelli Mosell is recognized for her distinctive limpid sound and clarity of intentions of her prodigious playing that combines the blazing virtuosic command over the most demanding technical complexities and her natural musical insight. Her debut recording, Virtuoso Piano Music, released in February 2011 by Brilliant Classics, has gained international acclaim for “her great panache” and “sparkling technique in demanding music” in which “she leaves no doubt of her enviable facility” (Gramophone Magazine).

Since her debut appearence at eleven years old with pianist Pascal Rogé, which described her as “the most natural musical talent I have encountered in my entire life as a musician and teacher”, Vanessa has been playing with orchestras as the Berliner Symphoniker, the Muenchner Symphoniker, the Edmonton Symphony and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. Her performance of Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini with the Westfalen Philharmonie electrified critics, with Der Westen commenting on “her dazzling powers of young virtuoso”. In 2004 Yuri Bashmet awarded her the Elba Festival Prize inviting her to perform under his baton on several occasions. More recently Vanessa received the first Award of the Festival Pietrasanta in Concerto as an outstanding young talent, where she performed conducted by Michael Guttman.

Internationally renowned for her performances of Stockhausen’s Klavierstuecke, Vanessa met the composer for the first time in 2006. Following her recording of Klavierstuecke I-IV featured in a Radio3 documentary, by the renowned music critic Mario Bortolotto, Vanessa was invited by the composer himself to study with him in Germany. Since that time till the unexpected death of Karlheinz Stockhausen, Vanessa has been working closely with the famous composer, receiving much critical acclaim and prizes for her interpretations.

Vanessa gives recitals in Europe, Asia and North-America making appearences at festivals as Radio France et Montpellier, Ravello, Elba and Saratoga. She regularly performs at Rome Quirinale featuring Radio3 live concerts broadcasting. In 2010 Vanessa made her debut at the Berliner Philharmonie performing Liszt Piano Concerto n. 1 conducted by Lior Shambadal.

In 2012 she was called to replace Martha Argerich at short notice, performing Chopin Piano Concerto in E minor, with the Moscow Soloists, conducted by Yuri Bashmet at Festival “Pietrasanta in Concerto”. More recently Vanessa played at the Wigmore Hall in London, to audience acclaim, and performed at the Manzoni Auditorium in Bologna with the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna conducted by Alberto Veronesi.

Vanessa’s hugely successful debut recording ‘Introducing Vanessa Benelli Mosell’, was quickly followed up in September 2012 by her “…impressively refined and nuanced…(Gramophone 2013) ‘Liszt Recital’, on Brilliant Classics. The same year also saw a tour to South America and a concerto and recital tour to Israel with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Later this season she made her recital debut at the Laeiszhalle Hamburg and her debut with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg.

Furthermore she collaborated with chamber music partners as Alena Baeva, Tatjana Vassiljeva, Boris Andrianov, Renaud and Gautier Capucon, Alexander Buzlov, Andrey Usov and David Cohen.

Vanessa Benelli Mosell began playing the piano at the age of three with Alberto Alinari in Florence. At seven years old she was exceptionally admitted at the International Piano Academy in Imola, where she has been studying with Franco Scala till 2006. In 2007 she was invited to enter the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory to study with Mikhail Voskresensky. In 2010 she entered the Royal College of Music in London, where she graduated in 2012 studying with Dmitri Alexeev, generously supported by the Russel Gander Award. Vanessa Benelli Mosell is a Young Steinway Artist.
